What is the famous Socrates’ quote about the man’s attitude towards the laws?

Ought a man do what he admits to being right, or ought he to betray the right?” This quote given by Socrates projects the question if either a man should obey the laws of his land or disobey the laws of his land. The laws of society should not limit our freedom, but we should always use that freedom only in good terms. In Plato Crito dialogue we see Crito who is one of Socrates’ students visiting him in jail. Crito tried to convince Socrates to flee because he is upholding an unjust sentence and upholding a greater unjust sentence that will harm his family. Crito also implied that people would look him friends wrong because they did not help him to flee Athens. For Crito, the cost of Socrates escaping Athens was not an issue because he did not want his friend to face an unjust conviction. Crito then added two more arguments. The first one is that if he stayed he is aiding his unjust accusers, and the second argument is that he is abandoning sons.

We later see that Socrates coincides with Crito about ordinary people, complaining that they have no power to make people wise. Socrates also told Crito not to be troubled about people because they will always prefer authority opinion to majority opinion. Similarly, people either side with the Laws or the laws will side with the people. Regardless of the state of affairs, it is odd to say that the laws are just and must be respected and the unjust people should not be respected.
