- Why is O’Brien such a revered and respected character, even during Winston’s time in the Ministry of Love?
- Outline the social hierarchy of Oceania. How does this hierarchy support the Party and its goals?
- Is Winston sane or insane? How does our society determine what is sane and insane, appropriate behavior or deviant behavior, moral or immoral? If one person believes in an idea or creed that is totally different from or opposite to that of the entire society, is that person insane?

3. For the most part of the novel, Winston isn’t insane. He doesn’t give off the vibe of being insane. He acts like other party members and conforms to the rules of the party. Our society determines all of these characteristics based on similarity. If a person’s morals don’t align with what the society believes is right, that person is suddenly immoral. If that person does something that the society sees as unusual, then it will mark the person as insane. Having a different idea than what the society believes in is usually not considered insane. There are many people who have radical ideas that are considered revolutionary. Everyone is not the same.Many of those who are not have been called revolutionary. The labeling of insanity is different for every person to determine
