Innovation has a direct relationship with the construction of F1 cars, and undoubtedly the attractiveness of F1 has been coming from the performance of racing cars. From the constructor’s point of view, innovation is vital as they have to constantly challenge the manufacturing and technological boundaries of car performance under standardised rules in order to win championships. Moreover, the purpose of setting standards in F1 racing is to minimise the possibility that one will entitle to superior technological advantages against other participants. The FIA is responsible for applying and regulating standards of the sport since 1950. There is an enormous number of F1 technical standards applied by the FIA in 2017, whereas this report will only present an analysis of standards in aerodynamics, engine and fuel tank, data collection. Subsequently, it will illustrate whether each standard has limited the innovation in Scuderia Ferrari F1 cars. Regarding to the limitation of innovation by standards, to what extent did FIA’s standards limit the innovation in Ferrari F1 cars throughout the 2017 world championship season?
