Social – The need for social interaction Jackie needs social interaction as she has mobility problems as well as depression and anxiety so doesn’t get out the house much she is also a binge alcoholic which has resulted in her being isolated from friends and family. I think Jackie needs social opportunities to help her engage in conversation, share experiences and build relationships this will help her to develop her social identity and achieve a sense of acceptance and belonging.
Physical – For growth and repair (basic or essential needs necessary to preserve human life and promote well-being), Jackie has a physical need regarding her poor diet and lifestyle due to her binge drinking when Jackie relapses she can drink for days without eating or washing and severely neglecting her health and hygiene leaving her malnourished. Eating a healthy balanced diet is very important and can help maintain physical and mental wellbeing.
Emotional – The need to feel safe and secure. Jackie has emotional needs because when her mother, father, and partner all died within a short period she was left with no support networks or people to share her emotions with resulting in more depression and excessive drinking. This left Jackie feeling unloved, lonely, isolated with no interaction within the community. Jackie needs to try and build trusting relationships in which she is secure enough to express her emotions and emotional needs.
Cognitive – The need for mental stimulation. Jackie has cognitive needs as she is at risk of developing korsokoff syndrome (a chronic memory disorder caused by alcohol misuse). Jackie just exists in her day to day life by doing the basics, i.e. eating, washing, and sleeping with no communication, problem-solving, decision making or reasoning in her daily life she has no mental stimulation and without cognitive stimulation her mental abilities and capacity will deteriorate.
