In “Tartuffe,” is the character of Cleante realistic to the period and is he an important? More importantly does he perform a viable role for the play or does he just present ideas? Can he be both? Develop an argument that supports one or both positions and which is “fully justifiable” by use of the text. Thoroughly explain your reasoning.
