How many hours teachers work a week?

As a recently retired teacher, I must admit, the job simply cannot be done in 40 hours a week. It’s 50 hours at an absolute minimum. When people say, “but teachers have the whole summer off”, these same teachers have already worked a whole years’ hours in 9 months. And, the summer isn’t really “off”. Most teachers must work in the summer to earn enough to live. Further, there is staff development, new essayhave lesson plans to design, etc. during the summer. Those teachers are NOT “off” for the summer. Teachers, like everyone else, deserve to be paid for their work. They are teachers, not slaves. What do you think?
