Othello Questions Act V Scene II: What does Desdemona try to convince Othello to do before he kills her

1. She begs “banish me, my lord, but kill me not”, “to be given just half an hour more to live”. But Othello is relentless, and smothers her with a pillow.

2. Emilia reports (wrongly) that Roderigo has been killed by Cassio, and that Cassio is wounded, but not dead. Othello is furious to realize that Cassio is still alive.

3. When Emilia asked “who hath done this deed” to Desdemona, she replied “Nobody, I myself.” She did not tell that Othello had smothered her.

4. When Emilia realizes why her husband (Iago) wanted her to give him Desdemona’s handkerchief and that she is largely responsible for the death of her mistress and that she is married to a most sinister villain.

5. Gratiano said that it’s a good thing Desdemona’s dad, Brabantio, died of heartbreak over her wedding to Othello, because he really wouldn’t have survived this traumatic event (death of Desdemona).
