The fat tax is going to make people pay a social cost for eating unhealthy food meaning that they would be paying for being unhealthy. This would be appropriate as it would be very much similar to the tax on alcohol and tobacco. It would basically act as a cost that is going to make people think more about buying unhealthy food and will help them to go for healthier foods as the unhealthy stuff will be more expensive, and they will have to pay a little bit more any time they feel like eating junk. According to the Daily Mail, this tax will save us billions and as a country best known for its culinary suicide with foods like the English breakfast or shortbread just two of the foods the UK is most famous and they are both full of fat. If we introduce a fat tax, we will prevent the estimated costs for treatment of obesity which is said to be £9.7 billion by 2050 which is absolutely terrifying to think that it is possible if nothing is done now. This shows that if we introduce fatty foods and drinks tax, then more and more people would be less likely to become obese meaning that the NHS will not have to spend anywhere near that amount of money by 2050.
