The question is entrenched of threat by people ignorantly making assumptions that are either too simplistic, generalized or something that is stereotypical. It is these views that permeate within society with little knowledge what prostitutes actually go through. There is numerous of categories a prostitute may fall into. On one end of the spectrum there are escorts or professional sex workers who can charge a lot of money for their services, and on the others hand, there are, what most people think of prostitutes, streetwalkers who are drug addicts that are in poverty.
There are some people who would dispute that prostitution is a valid career as they have a preconception that women have chosen to join the profession however that is not always the case. This belief that the majority of people have ignores the fact that these women were either forced or coerced into prostitution due to what could be circumstances that they were in for example poverty and addiction. Nine out of ten prostitutes have been physically abused as a child, half of the prostitutes have been sexually assaulted by a non-family member, and a 75% have issues with drugs.
