One of the most challenging issues for this week was the ethics in the Qur’an lecture and especially the discussion concerning the paradox of whether the Qur’an’s verses says human beings have the freedom of choice, or they are predetermined. “The most fundamental thing for being moral is having the freedom of choice but does the Qur’an says we have this freedom?”, That’s the question that opened a long, interesting discussion cause some verses supported the freedom of humanity and others didn’t. Furthermore, knowing that the Qur’an is not completely positive or negative about human nature was challenging in a way that made me do further research about it. Linking Qur’an with anthropology, psychology, and philosophy made us believe more on how Qur’an applies in each and every aspect of our daily lives. Ending this week with speeches from Baroness Uddin, Navin Kapoor, and Dr Ann Olivrius added a lot to our expertise and beliefs in women’s power and influence on the whole world and took us back to the importance of leadership and that there’s nothing men can do women cannot do.
How the culture influences a person’s life?
Before applying for this program, I expected to learn more about different cultures, explore one of the most unique countries and become more responsible and independent, especially because it is my first travelling experience, and my goal was to take the benefit out of each, and every lecture, workshop, discussion and even report in order to improve my skills and acquire new ones. All those expectations and goals have been fulfilled and that was mainly because of the college’s staff who established a secure environment that enabled us to act freely and improve our level of responsibility as well as the lecturers who didn’t only care about the academic content but also about the discussions and debates that will bring the best out of each student and will let us exchange our different thoughts to grasp the full knowledge of each topic and be able to see it from different perspectives.
