The question of whether rap/ hip hop music leads violence or not is a hugely debated matter. This issue is important as rap/ hip hop music is growing and is even becoming a part of our culture when it comes to music. The question of whether rap/ hip hop music leads violence or not is a hugely debated matter. This issue is important as rap/ hip hop music is growing and is even becoming a part of our culture when it comes to music. This is a very controversial topic with many people believing that rap music can only lead to violence and influence the society in a negative way as many lyrics contain many links to gun and gang violence and many rappers portray the government and the world we live in negatively. However, rap music can also be the only way out for teenagers who grew up in deprived areas and dropped out of school. There are also a handful of rappers who use rap to bring a positive message across. In this essay, I will discuss the two sides, and many different many viewpoints and I will also put my opinion forward.
One of the main impacts of listening to rap music that some may believe is that it leads to aggressive behavior with most of the rap/hip-hop industry being offensive and harmful to society. Although many people may adore this type of music, most critics agree by saying this music sends a negative message to the youth of violence, aggressive and unprincipled behavior. A study was carried out by a university in America; it was put to the test of whether or not young people listening to rap music causes violent behavior or not. Majority of teenagers who watched the rap music acted violently while the others who didn’t listen to the music were much more civilized and behaved in a normal manner. I found this information of an internet source and it shows that rap music causes the younger generation to carry out violence.
However, some people may also strongly believe that rap/hip hop music is a great opportunity for young people to get out of the cycle of poverty and make some money for themselves. Hip-hop/rap duo Krept and Konan were heavily involved in gangs while growing up, but after the death of Konan’s dad, they both decided to leave the street life and produce and sell their music they both have a net worth of £2 million showing how much rap music can change lives for the better.
One other reason why people may believe rap/ hip-hop music can lead to violence is that of how gangs may express themselves through lyrics and how they may describe.
