Though some may argue that in the times of today when men and women are beginning to feel more inclined to come forward about sexual assault and the disgusting acts that lie behind the scenes of Hollywood it may not just be the formation of sexual attraction between one another within Hollywood films that hold the problem. It could also be argued that due to the unwanted sexual acts found behind the camera that cause men and women not to be friends is a reason they slowly break apart from one another. In recent years many men and women have been accused of sexual offences such as assault and rape including director Harvey Weinstein and Actors Kevin Spacey and Woody Allen. Harvey Weinstein has been accused of rape by women such as the Italian actress Asia Argento when she was 21, and British actress Lysette Anthony in her London home in the late 1980s and many more women accuse him of similar acts.
This strength to come forward to such powerful men is being backed by influential charities such as ‘Draw a line’ who are backed by popular celebrities such as Billie Piper and Benedict Cumberbatch. ‘Draw the line’ states that 1 in 4 women in the UK alone have experienced sexual or physical violence within their lifetime and this charity offers the opportunity for females to come forward and tell their stories without being afraid of the consequences of greater powers. With both the formation of love within the film and the unwanted love behind the film it can be seen that the ideals of male to female friendships are difficult to control or maintain as the stigmatisation of sexual violence looms heavily between the sexes.
