The above drawbacks act as the driving factors for developing a new IT infrastructure in the cloud. The goal of this proposal is to design a cost-effective cloud computing strategy that has the potential to transform the existing basic IT system into a powerful, efficient and secure IT services which can be accessed from anywhere.
Following are the keys points of the suggested cloud strategy:
- Form an IT Governance body to drive the transition
- Inform key stakeholders before implementation
- Identify an appropriate vendor to suit the needs
- Formulate security plans
- Existing data and back up data in the system will be moved to the cloud using Paas
- A full-fledged application to be developed using Iaas or Paas and deployed to Cloud Public
- Messages services on the cloud to be used to communicate with customers and staff
Cloud Computing is a distributed technology offering global, convenient, affordable, on-demand access to a shared pool of resources such as physical data centers, networking, storage, software development tools, and application hosting to enable rapid development and deployment of the software with minimal management effort and service provider interaction. The current IT delivery model for services is being influenced greatly because of benefits offered by cloud computing such as no upfront investments, low operational costs, high scalability, flexibility, high ease of access, capacity utilization, higher efficiencies, mobility, reduced maintenance expenses.
Cloud computing is often linked, associated and compared to other related technologies such as Grid computing, Utility computing, Virtualization, and Autonomic computing. It should be noted that cloud computing leverages, shares and extends these technologies and concepts and thus offers unique benefits and challenges as well. Cloud computing should not be confused with SOA (Service Oriented Architecture). SOA builds information system by discovering, matching and integrating already developed software. Whereas cloud computing is a business model for the delivery of services. It should be noted that modular architecture and SOA are one of the enablers of cloud computing.
